Hygiene trainings are organised in the villages promoted under the water and sanitation programme as an ancillary support to the implementation purpose. In the month of April, almost 40 self help groups were trained in Sambalpur district. The trainings essentially covered personal hygiene and environmental hygiene issues, relating well with the necessity for toilets and safe drinking water. The training has a particular set module, which is prepared in Oriya to make it more users' friendly for the field officers to follow it up. It was attempted in the module to explain the actual meanings of health & hygiene, the risks that the communities are exposed to due to poor hygienic conditions and the measures that can prevent them from being vulnerable. Apart from this, there is a provision to conduct two assessment sessions, the first being conducted after a week of the training session and the second being conducted after a month of the training sessions. This will ensure that the training has actually benefitted the people and increased the knowledge level of the people who have undergone the exercise.
