Self-Help Group (SHG) Promotion & Micro Finance (mF): The services at present provided by it are well accepted by the clients. Some of the services are:

  • Mobilization of weekly savings. Although most of the clients belong to the poor and disadvantaged groups, due to the motivation of BISWA they save weekly.
  • The monthly savings vary from Rs.20-40 per month.
  • Striking Bank linkages/ credits for SHGs according to groups' savings.
  • Arrange and avail purposive credits for groups from its own mobilized/created funds.
  • Organize periodical orientation programs for the SHG leaders and members.
  • Collect mF related information & then disseminate those among the clients.
  • Compulsory functional literacy program for the members.
  • Sensitizing members on various Govt. schemes for different category of clients.
  • Reaching basic health care services through its community based drug distribution centers.
  • Vocational/ entrepreneurship training for the selected clients.
  • Initial stationary and record keeping support.
  • Marketing linkages of SHG products.

Integrated Tribal Development Project: The programme has covered 10 villages in Sambalpur district and has brought in sustainable development among the deprived tribal women in 3 years, through increased awareness, literacy, income generating activities, micro credit assistance, marketing support with forward & backward linkage for their production & marketing.

Reproductive Child Health: BISWA has been implementing the Reproductive Child Health Programme since the year 1999. Besides the Reproductive Child Health Programme, BISWA organizes at lease one health camp in a day in its area of operation as well as eye camps which has a direct impact on the life of the poor people. These Health Camps not only assists in providing health care services, but also fulfills the need of the people where there is no doctor and provides health education which helps them in maintaining the Community Based Medicine Distribution Centers on a sustainable basis.

Non-Formal Education/Innovative Education Schools: 418 tribal & rural children, those are either school drop-out or never attended school, have been enrolled in the schools run by BISWA for non-formal education under the innovative education programme during the year.

Vocational Training: The unemployed-youth of the rural tribal areas of Orissa has inspired BISWA to provide vocational training to this section of the population to help increase the overall family income.

HIV-AIDS Awareness: BISWA has conducted 52 numbers of STD/RTI/HIV/AIDS awareness camp in its project village through out the region. It has identified 47 suspected cases of HIV infected persons in the entire region.

Rural Entrepreneurship Development: BISWA has taken up entrepreneurship development as one of its 3 approach and has so far taken up 340 artisans for their socio-economic development in the trades of cane & bamboo, Bell/Brass Metal, Stuff Toys, Ready Made Garments Making, Sisal Craft, Candle Making as well as weaving.Thus our vision is to maintain a just and equitable society with greater emphasis on spirituality, compassion and peace on earth.

Cluster Development: 120 artisans of bell & brass metal cluster at Rengali, Sambalpur have been provided with semiskilled training and also credit linked for their socio-economic development. BISWA has constructed a common facility centre for these artisans along with all modern machineries required to manufacture the qualitative products to compete in the global market.

Training cum Production Centre (TPC): 240 women have been provided with sustainable income by establishing four readymade garment-manufacturing centers (Two in Bargarh District, One in Sambalpur District, One in Jagatsinghpur District). Besides ready-made garments, one TPC in candle making, one TPC in Stuff toys making, one TPC in Badi Making, one TPC in Pampad making, one TPC in Soap making, one TPC in Sisal Craft making and one TPC in Bamboo craft making has provided employment opportunity to 320 women.

Environment Protection: 64 Hectare of community owned forestland has been afforested with the bamboo plants for providing resource base to the bamboo artisans and made them aware to regenerate one plant for cutting one plant for their livelihood.

Human Rights Protection: BISWA has convened and conducted regional workshops on women human rights at Sambalpur and has successfully raised voice along with other right activists for protection of women against human rights violation in the region.

Lepers' Socialisation: BISWA has adopted 492 lepers and provided them income generation activities. The marketing of their products is done by BISWA at the initial phase to make people accept these products. Later these lepers will market their own products as people realise and start accepting the products manufactured them.

Agriculture & Extension Work: 985 farmers of the project areas were distributed with high yielding varieties of seasonal crops and vegetables. The farmers were encouraged to use bio-fertilisers instead of chemical fertilisers. BISWA in Hatibari Health Home project has taken up 563 Acre of land for agriculture and allied activities, where it engages the leprosy cured people for doing agricultural activities in order to provide them employment opportunity in order to refrain them from begging.

Sanitation: BISWA gives utmost importance to the sanitation of its project villages. It conducts awareness camp on sanitation in each of its project villages as an integral part of self helps group awareness. However, during the current year 21 sanitation camps were exclusively conducted for creating awareness at the community level and 239 individual house hold latrines with the participation of the community has been constructed. Besides rural Sanitation, BISWA has undertaken urban sanitation in Sambalpur, Bargarh and Hirakud Urban body and demonstrated low cost sanitation through self help groups. It has also started a process for recycling of the non-bio plastics and has generated employment for the poor people.

Irrigation Facility: 54 Acre of agricultural land, of the tribal villagers, has been irrigated conserving the surface water and recharging the ground water in the project villages. The water conservation and ground water recharging is done by construction of small water harvesting structures. BISWA has constructed 2 small water-harvesting structures for the above purpose.
