15th Annual day Invitation

Policy Resposes high on agenda- KC Malick

The global financial crisis is causing a considerable slowdown in most developed countries. Governments are trying to contain the crisis, but the worst is not yes over. Stock markets are down more than 40% from their recent highs. Investment banks have collapsed, rescue packages involving more than a trillion dollars are being drawn up, and interest rates have been cut around the world in what looks like a coordinated response. India has been badly affected by the financial contagion, trade and trade prices, remittances, and aid in this recession period. This condition has led to weaker export revenues, lower investment and growth rates, loss of employment, having social effect lower growth translating into higher poverty, more crime, weaker health systems and even more difficulties meeting the MDGs.

Empowering The AIDS Affected (Press Release)
AIDS_Day_2008.jpgIn 1994, BISWA adopted a resolution conceming HIV/AIDS and the work involved in it. The resolution said "HIV/AIDS is a universal pandemic that is threatening everyone, especially the economically and socially weaker section. It also noted the devastating impact that HIV/AIDS has on employment and called for an urgent action from all quarters of operation of BISWA.
BISWA chairman Khirod Chandra Malick had proposed, "Let all major BISWA's events and meetings have an HIV/ADS angle to it. "The call was one of all hands on deck in the crisis". This paper represents BISWA's Microfinance approach to that call. HIV/AIDS undermines decent employment provision not only through its devastating effect on the health of the labour force, but also undermines the health of the financial institutions which keep the wheel of enterprise and employment turning.
